Writing final

                                          Survey on social networks

The social network world is getting bigger and bigger every year. It is now a habit for our generation to go check on facebook and other sites like this what is new. It is almost now an addiction for some people. We wanted to know in our research if girls are more concern about the social network world than boys. We came up with a hypothesis that said that girls are more concern about social network than boys. We thought that since girls are more concern about the image they project that they would be more sensitive about social network where it is all about showing information about them. We conceive eight questions that we asked to thirty people that are mostly between eighteen and twenty-four years old. This text is going to talk about those eight questions and the answers we got and then I am going to conclude by saying if our hypothesis was right or not.

The first question asked if the person goes on social network. Most people said yes.  There was a slight difference between the genders but it was very small. The difference as that some girls said they did not go on social network. After that, we asked what favourite social network site was there. Almost everybody answered that their favourite one was facebook. We were not really surprise since there is about 500 active users on facebook. Women had a little more variety in their answer for this question. Some of them answered they liked twitter the most but again it is a very small difference from men’s answers. The third question was about how often the person goes on social network. Men answered in majority that they go many times a day and women answered mostly that they go about once a day. So, we can conclude that men go more often, but not completely since many women answered they go many times a day. Fourth, we asked how they access social network site. Most people said computer or laptop. Men had a little more variety in their answer so we could say that they are more inclined to using some new technology. For our fifth question, everybody answered that they go on social network to communicate with friends. There was no difference between the genders. A majority of people said that they did not worry about their privacy on social network. In our results, women cared more about it than men. Then, we asked if those sites were safe for children. A majority of people said no but many people said yes. Girls are more concern about the security of children because most of them said it was not safe. Finally, we asked if they accept people they don’t know on social network. Everybody said no but we suspect the person that answered of lying because we know that almost everybody did it once. Everybody said no so there is no difference between the genders.

In conclusion, we found out that in majority there is no real difference between the gender and that girls are not really more concern about social network than boys. They are maybe more concern about privacy and security but that’s the only questions in our survey that showed a real difference between men and women. So, we could say that social networks are really popular for both genders.

District 9 ( the correction)

What would happen if a gigantic alien spaceship landed in Africa? That is what the film District 9 is about. The film starts as a documentary on the life of Wikus van der Merwe, a bureaucrat that is in charge of the moving of the alien from District 9, where they live, to another district, much smaller. The story really begins when Wikus gets infected by an alien virus and is slowly transforming into an alien. That is when Christopher, an intelligent alien, comes into the story and tells Wikus that he has the remedy to his situation but he has to return on his planet to get it and firstly to help his people. The first review I have is written by Roger Ebert. He starts by summarizing the story and then criticizes some of its aspects. He criticizes that we don’t know where the aliens come from and how they got there. He is also critical about the fact that the only nice and intelligent alien has a human name ,Christopher Johnson. Then , he asks himself why the aliens don’t use their weapons and what it is in those weapons that is so fantastic compared to the human weapons. Roger Ebert doesn’t seem so impressed by the movie but doesn’t seem to hate it .The second review I found is written by James Berardinelli. He seems to  appreciate the movie much more than Roger Ebert. He congradulate  the movie for not only being a simple alien movie but also incorporating parallels with history. He also like the special effects that he considers first-rated. He like that the movie can be serious but also have room for many action scenes. Finally, he gives the movie 3.5 stars which is pretty good so I think that he generally enjoyed the movie. For my part, I did not love the movie but did not hate it either. I think that the idea of the documentary is good but after that part the movie is just an ordinary science fiction movie with aliens. I think, like Roger Ebert, that some parts of the movie are a little ridiculous. The main character, Wikus, becomes nice in the last five minutes of the movie and finally defends Christopher, the nice alien. In my opinion , the last scenes of the movie were long and boring because they were just action scene with a lot of violence. Finally , I did not really like the movie District 9 because I think that even though there is parallels with history in the movie, the movie has no real emotional depth.

Jean Philippe

When I saw Jean-Phillipe walked in class this morning I was happy because I remebered talking to this guy a couple of time in my first english class and I thought he was really nice even though he seemed shy. Today, I got a chance to know him better.

The most important thing to know about Jean-Philippe is that his main goal in life is to travel around the world to discover other cultures and languages. He also wants to work in the financial world which would bring him many chances to travel as a buisness man.He is proud to speak four languages which are spanish, english, french and german. In fact, he is studying in language and is passionate about it.In University,he wants to enter a special program in finance that will send him around the world to do many stages. It is now obvious that he is obsess and passionate by traveling. The place in the world that he would like the most to visit is the Middle East.

Jean Philippe has friends all around the world .For example,he knows a girl from Hungary that came in Canada to learn french. His parents come Thetford Mines ,a small city in Beauce, which is a big coincidence because my father come from there too so we enjoy talking about the not so many attractions that this town has to offer like the mines.Jean Philippe works at Rona and is pretty much enjoying it but he still consider that school is the priority in his life.He works so that he can have the money to travel which is very important for him.

Now that I know Jean Philippe better I can tell you that he is a really funny and nice guy with big dreams and ambition. When we talk we can't stop laughing and smiling .I really wish that he is going to accomplish what he wish for in life.
