District 9 ( the correction)

What would happen if a gigantic alien spaceship landed in Africa? That is what the film District 9 is about. The film starts as a documentary on the life of Wikus van der Merwe, a bureaucrat that is in charge of the moving of the alien from District 9, where they live, to another district, much smaller. The story really begins when Wikus gets infected by an alien virus and is slowly transforming into an alien. That is when Christopher, an intelligent alien, comes into the story and tells Wikus that he has the remedy to his situation but he has to return on his planet to get it and firstly to help his people. The first review I have is written by Roger Ebert. He starts by summarizing the story and then criticizes some of its aspects. He criticizes that we don’t know where the aliens come from and how they got there. He is also critical about the fact that the only nice and intelligent alien has a human name ,Christopher Johnson. Then , he asks himself why the aliens don’t use their weapons and what it is in those weapons that is so fantastic compared to the human weapons. Roger Ebert doesn’t seem so impressed by the movie but doesn’t seem to hate it .The second review I found is written by James Berardinelli. He seems to  appreciate the movie much more than Roger Ebert. He congradulate  the movie for not only being a simple alien movie but also incorporating parallels with history. He also like the special effects that he considers first-rated. He like that the movie can be serious but also have room for many action scenes. Finally, he gives the movie 3.5 stars which is pretty good so I think that he generally enjoyed the movie. For my part, I did not love the movie but did not hate it either. I think that the idea of the documentary is good but after that part the movie is just an ordinary science fiction movie with aliens. I think, like Roger Ebert, that some parts of the movie are a little ridiculous. The main character, Wikus, becomes nice in the last five minutes of the movie and finally defends Christopher, the nice alien. In my opinion , the last scenes of the movie were long and boring because they were just action scene with a lot of violence. Finally , I did not really like the movie District 9 because I think that even though there is parallels with history in the movie, the movie has no real emotional depth.
